Winter Storm for January 5-6

Snow Amounts for January 5-6

A low pressure system is moving through South Dakota today. Snow is projected with this weather motion, with the highest levels of snowfall aimed towards the southeast portion of the state.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation sent out a tweet this morning, urging citizens to travel earlier in the day and avoid travel later.

The range of Brookings to Vermillion is projected to get the most snowfall today, with totals ranging from 5-10 inches, depending on what weather service you listen to. Most of the snowfall will begin around noon and continue through most of this evening.

Citizens are urged to use common sense when traveling, by packing warm clothes and other various pieces of emergency gear.
