The South Dakota state Epidemiologist is concerned over a steady increase in daily cases of COVID-19.
The number of cases has risen steadily since mid-July.
Josh Clayton says people should take steps to protect themselves and the community when they are in public.
“A little bit of what we’re seeing is COVID 19 becoming a little bit more standard in the community,” Clayton says. “That is concerning because of the level of severity of illness. We want to make sure individuals are taking precautions.”
The 7-day average of daily cases has nearly doubled since mid July. On July 16th that average was 51.1 cases. Numbers from Benchmark Data Labs show it’s now 99.6 cases a day.
State Health officials report 86 new cases of COVID 19 Monday. On Sunday, there were 156 new cases of COVID 19 reported in the state.
