A COVID-19 Numbers Update

COVID

State health officials report 38 new coronavirus cases. 33 are variant strains of the virus.

The CDC reports the state ranks third in the nation for the number of total positive cases, per capita. More than 13,000 South Dakotans have been infected per 100,000 people.

Active cases and hospitalizations are down. There are 674 current infections and 53 people hospitalized.

Health officials report no new deaths. The state’s death toll stands at 1,994.

Health systems have distributed vaccine doses to more than 342,000 people. More than half of South Dakotans have received at least one dose of vaccine.

The Department of Health now calculates the total percent of those vaccinated using 2019 Census population estimates of those 12 and older. That lowers the percentage of South Dakotans receiving at least one COVID-19 vaccine and those considered fully vaccinated by roughly three percent each.
