David Herbster says he always knew he’d be an athletic director again after holding the position at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, but he never thought he’d hold it at USD. Herbster is USD’s official athletic director after holding the interim position since December. He joined USD as an associate athletic director in 2007 and his goal then was to get the university through its transition to Division I. Now, Herbster has new goals as he takes over the athletic director position.
“The one that’s on the front burner is ensuring the completion of the athletic facility master plan—getting the arena built, the track, the soccer fields, ultimately renovating the inside of the Dome to increase the capacity there. That’s the big driver. In between there is making sure that between all of our coaches, administration, student athletes, my priority is to push and support them to be the best they can,” Herbster says.
Herbster says he has the familiarity with the USD community, as well as the foundation of getting the department through the D-I transition, that make him qualified for the position.
