Helpline Center Offers Military Support During Shutdown

A Sioux Falls organization is offering additional support to military families and individuals during the federal government shut down. Those facing additional challenges during this time can contact the Helpline Center.

Military individuals and families may experience challenges as a result of the government shutdown, and the Helpline Center offers community resources and support and is available by calling 211.  Sara Carothers at the Helpline Center says they have contacts for furloughed military families or those not receiving a paycheck during the shutdown.

"This could cause great emotional strife for families as well. Suddenly having huge financial burdens or a way different financial situation could be very emotionally trying for those families and they may just have anxiety about it that they want to talk about and those are all reasons that people may dial 211 and want to connect with a military family support specialist," Carothers says.

The Helpline is also offering a Military Family Forum. The Oct. 16 event will showcase community resources and financial support services. Click here for more information.
