South Dakota State Senator Stan Adelstein is announcing his resignation. Senator Adelstein is suffering from complications from a previous hip surgery. He is due for surgery again this week.
Adelstein says he isn’t sure that while recovering he’ll be able to dedicate himself one-hundred percent to the upcoming Legislative session. He says although he’s resigning from the Senate, he plans to remain on the political scene in South Dakota.
“I’ve always been somewhere around politics since shortly after I got out of the Army so I guess I probably will. What role I’ll play is a question. I just can’t imagine not being in public life,” says Adelstein.
Senator Adelstein’s resignation begins immediately. Governor Dennis Daugaard is asking the public to submit nominations for a candidate to fill the remainder of the term. Adelstein’s successor is appointed by the Governor.
