Civic Center Expansion Plan Seeks Input

Rapid City residents have a say on plans to expand the local civic center.

The facility was first built in 1977 and some in the community are pushing for an expansion and renovation–that could include a new arena among other amenities.

Donovan Broberg is an Architect who is leading the team working on the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Expansion Project.   Broberg says a series of public meetings will garner input as the expansion plans develop.

“We start with an open slate and are wanting to give the public an opportunity to chime in on what they understand and want and what they’d like to see.  We want to be able to know that we’ve heard the whole realm of desires and such and been able to address them as we continue to refine the potential design,” says  Broberg

Broberg says the issue of expanding the civic center may come down to a public vote this November with any construction taking place in the coming years.

You can find a list of public meetings planned on the expansion proposal plus websites of those involved below.
