NSU hosts its 29th annual Tuba Christmas this Saturday. Tuba and euphonium players of all levels and ages are invited to participate. The day starts with rehearsal followed by performances at a few locations around town. Boyd Perkins is the Director of Bands at NSU. He says the musicians are encouraged to show their holiday spirit.
“It’s fun to have all these people come together from all over the state,” Perkins says. “And a lot of people dress up in their Santa Claus costumes and elf costumes and they decorate their instruments. I would say the best part of it is going to the nursing homes and playing. We split the group up and we hit many nursing homes in town. And that’s just really great, it really brightens those people’s day, having those tubas come in and play Christmas music. It’s such a unique sound that you don’t hear all the time.”
Perkins says sign up begins at 9:00 am Saturday. There is a ten dollar registration fee.
