A South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper was shot during a standoff in rural Brule County near the town of Kimball. Officials say the trooper, whose name is being withheld, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Colonel Craig Price with the South Dakota Highway Patrol says the incident occurred after the suspect Donald London of Kimball allegedly barricaded himself and another person in his residence Wednesday afternoon. In a press conference streamed by KELOLAND News Price explained.
"London initiated a phone call to the Brule County Sherriff's office threatening law enforcement. While law enforcement attempted to make contact with London a round was fired from the residence injuring a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper," says Price.
The second individual came out of the residence unharmed around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday Night. He is being questioned by law enforcement. As the 8:45pm Central press conference London remained barricaded in his home.
