The United States is currently buzzing with news of space travel. NASA has announced efforts they’re taking to send people to Mars. Dr. Buzz Aldrin is an advocate for colonizing on the planet.
Dr. Buzz Aldrin is best known for his part in the first moon landing and being the second man to set foot on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. But Aldrin hopes to be remembered for more than the landing.
“Some people may not like it, but I’d like to be Mars guy number one. I’m not going to be there, but I hope to help presidents gain a great legacy by committing the nation to leading international crews to permanence on Mars,” Aldrin says.
Aldrin explains that civilization on the big red planet may not be as far out as we think. He says there’s still a lot of research that needs to happen before humans can land.
“So, to send people there 2 days and bring them back, don’t bother doing that. You can be in orbit. But until you’ve been in orbit and assembled things, built them that you can say that there are appropriate living conditions down there on the surface, then you can send people down there,” Aldrin explains.
Aldrin believes it’s important for countries to collaborate in space exploration. He hopes to see an international effort to work towards Mars.
