In The Moment ... Adoption In South Dakota

Lori Walsh

In The Moment ... July 20, 2017 Show 138 Hour 1

Today we talk adoption in the state, going beyond the politics of new legislation by looking at how adoption has changed and what it looks like in South Dakota. We begin with Adam Pertman, President and CEO of the National Center on Adoption and Permanency and the author of Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families – and America.

Coleen Globke is founder of All About U Adoptions. She joins us to talk about how adoption has changed since she adopted her first child and how agencies now endeavor to help families with attachment and bonding in the early days of bringing home a new family member.

The height of summer means the height of summer reading. Mark Sundeen's fourth book explores themes of contemporary simplicity by presenting how three families across the country have tried to build a simple life in three different ways. The book is called The Unsettlers: In Search of the Good Life in Today's America. Along with the idea of a simple life, Sundeen also grapples with morality, joy, and the quest for meaningful work. See more summer reading recommendations on Lori Walsh’s blog: sdpb.org/margins.
