Innovation: Mitchell Technical Institute Awarded $50,000 Prize

Julie Brookbank, MTI vice president for marketing joins Innovation to talk about a national recognition.

Mitchell Technical Institute has been awarded the inaugural Siemens-Aspen Community College STEM Award by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program and the Siemens Foundation. MTI’s Power Line Construction and Maintenance program will receive an award of $50,000. The program is recognized for preparing students for high-demand jobs in advance of manufacturing, energy, healthcare and information technology. Eight Community Colleges were awarded the prize. MTI is the only one in South Dakota. Half of the award will go toward program development and the other half will go to students as scholarships.   

Cara Hetland is the Director of Radio and Journalism Content for South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
