Are backyard chickens livestock or pets? A recent NPR story has ruffled the feathers of South Dakota chicken aficionados. Stephanie Peterson runs Fruit of the Coop. It's a 7-acre farm near the Big Sioux River just outside of Brandon. She also teaches classes on responsibly raising chickens in the region.
