The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a 10-thousand dollar reward for information related to the burglary of a Rapid City sporting goods store.
Officials with the Rapid City Police Department says twenty-four handguns were stolen late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at The Rooster.
Detective Michael Shyne is an investigator with the RCPD. He says that’s an extremely large amount of stolen handguns on the streets of Rapid City.
“Anyone who would have any information at all leading to information on who might be responsible for this break in to the Rooster, or anyone who might have knowledge of people in the area trying to offload a large amount of handguns for—what is probably going to be—a greatly reduced price that would seem suspicious, it would be great if we could be contacted so we could try to determine if they’re tied into this burglary," Shyne says.
A similar robbery took place at The Rooster two years ago, where thieves stole 25 handguns. Officials say those guns ended up in Denver before getting tracked down.
Detective Shyne says they’re reviewing surveillance footage and working with other law enforcement entities to track down the firearms.
