Forecasters call for additional snowfall accumulations across most of the state this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in central and far northwestern areas of the state for tomorrow and Sunday.
Winter Weather Advisories begin tomorrow and end Sunday for parts of the Black Hills along with east central and southeastern regions.
National Weather Service meteorologist Troy Kleffman says this weekend's system comes to South Dakota from the Rockies.
"Looking like some pretty decent snow amounts are possible with this system, especially central parts of the state. Anywhere from maybe 5-8 inches is possible. Lesser amounts southwest from there - and probably, lesser amounts in the far northeast, too."
Kleffman says the Mitchell area may pick up a half foot of snow, with around 5 inches projected for Sioux Falls. He says the system will move through the state over a 48-hour period, leading to difficult road conditions.
"Some of the heaviest snow will probably occur Saturday night, but we'll continue with snow on Sunday - but it looks like more of a long-duration light snow for Sunday, hopefully ending Sunday night."
Kleffman says winds are forecast to be lighter than past storms - lowering the risk for blowing snow. He says another weather system may impact the state at the end of next week.
