South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has signed an emergency declaration that opens up additional state funds for counties impacted by severe weather.
A statement from the governor's office reads the money will come from the state disaster fund, and it can be used for costs experienced by state agencies when responding to a county's request for help. The declaration also gives the Governor the ability to activate the South Dakota National Guard if necessary.
Noem says in the statement that the state is focused on keeping infrastructure strong and helping those affected. She says the declaration will assist in recovery efforts.
There's a possibility the Noem Administration may request federal funds through a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
