Officials in Brookings County are preparing for flooding that's expected to begin this weekend.
Bob Hill is the county's director of emergency management. Hill says officials from the State Emergency Operations Center have produced maps for three communities.
"The City of Brookings - they have the Sixmile Creek that comes down from the north and they also have the Big Sioux River right on the edge of it. The City of Volga, which sits not too far from the Big Sioux River. And then, we've got the City of Bruce, which also sits on the Big Sioux River."

Hill says officials in Brookings, Volga, and Bruce are making their gameplan for this weekend and beyond. He says free sand is available for county residents at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. Hill says residents can buy bags at local retailers. He says some sandbags are still in place after the area got heavy rains last week.
Hill says he's been in touch with the State EOC and a representative with the National Guard about how to request further assistance.
He says residents need to stay away from roads covered with water. Hill says people who want to volunteer or need help due to flooding should call 211.
