Deadline For Federal Disaster Aid Jan. 31st

FEMA

Those who had property damage from the September tornadoes near Sioux Falls have until Friday to register for assistance.

The deadline to register for aid from FEMA is January 31st.

Mike Slater is an Extension Affairs specialist at FEMA. He said that people often don’t register for needed assistance and landowners begin repairs to their property without federal aid.

"In those cases where you’ve already cleaned up or repaired or replaced damaged property, you may be eligible for a straight reimbursement which would just basically be your money to spend to help with the work you’ve already done,” said Slater.

Slater says supplemental federal aid is also available to landowners whose insurance may not cover all the expenses.

With all the disaster recovery centers in the state closed, FEMA is taking applications both online and over the phone.
