The Presidential Pardon Of Conservative Operative And Convicted Felon Paul Erickson

CSPAN

In The Moment … January 21st, 2021 Show 975 Hour 2

Hours before President Trump left the White House, he pardoned 73 people and commuted the sentences of 70 others. One of those pardons was for South Dakota political operative Paul Erickson. Erickson was convicted of defrauding investors and sentenced to seven years in federal prison.

The statement from the White House said that Erickson's conviction was politically motivated and that he had been charged with what Trump calls a "minor financial crime."

Guest: SDPB's Seth Tupper covered the Paul Erickson story for the Rapid City Journal. He continues that coverage as an SDPB reporter today.
