Large wildfires are burning in neighboring states after an active fire weekend in the region.
Lightning is the suspected cause of the Carter Canyon Fire in western Nebraska. It's more than 13,000 acres in size and only partially contained.
Nebraska Public Media reports that the fire has destroyed several homes and damaged some others, but there are no injuries reported so far. The fire started 5 miles southwest of Gering, Nebraska.
Meanwhile, the Fish Wildfire is burning across the border from South Dakota in the Wyoming portion of the Black Hills National Forest.
That fire covers more than 500 acres about 7 miles southeast of Sundance, Wyoming. Some areas are evacuated, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
