Dick Termes

Join South Dakota artist Dick Termes, Asio Studio, and SDPB for a sneak peek of our new twelve-part art education series, How to Draw Using Perspectives with Dick Termes. The screening and Q&A will be open to the public on Thursday, October 5th, in the Jonas Academic Bldg. (Rm 305) on the campus of Black Hills State University. It’s part of the Co-lab Art Education Conference – equipping participants with engaging arts activities for your hometown.

Dick Termes was raised in Spearfish, South Dakota. He was an educator for some years until he decided to continue his education with a Master’s Degree in Art at the University of Wyoming, where he began exploring perspective art. He returned to SD in 1971, taking a position at BHSU, eventually pursuing his own passion for art full-time. Since then, he has blossomed in success, opening a Termesphere Gallery outside of Spearfish that has received foot traffic from artists worldwide. Termespheres can be found around the globe as part of permanent collections, including the Glasgow Science Centre, Science Centre Singapore, Department of Mathematical Sciences at West Point Military Academy, and Trinity College. In 1998, he was invited to display his work alongside one of his major influences - M.C. Escher- at the University of Rome, and in 2014, he was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. In his hometown of Spearfish, September 9th is designated as Dick Termes Day.

More information about the event can be found at sdpb.org/events. The screening invitation can be found here. The complete conference schedule can be found here.
