As summer returns, Rapid City’s first responders are adjusting operations to promote safety in public spaces.
The Rapid City Police Department on Thursday released its summer safety plans, including extra patrols in the city’s park system. The city Parks and Rec department is also in the process of developing its park ranger program.
Another summer project is the RCPD's quality-of-life unit, a non-uniformed outreach program to help find solutions for the city’s vulnerable population.
The fire department’s mobile medic unit will assist efforts this summer to proactively provide services for the vulnerable population.
The city also has a new team of safety specialists to provide security services for city offices and municipal properties.
Additionally, JourneyOn! continues to provide resources to the city's homeless population.
