What book should one use to teach the history of the United States to college freshman? This is the question many history professors ask themselves as they prepare to teach American History. With many books to choose from, I wanted a book the students would read. So last year I was very pleased to find a great text written by Will McClay, a Professor of History at Hillsdale College. My students enjoyed his highly readable and engaging book. Will is my guest on this episode as we talk about his, “Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story” and the issues in the book my students found the most interesting.
