History 605 S3 E1: An America 250 episode - The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams with guest Stacy Schiff

“In the first episode of season three we ask, what prompted Thomas Jefferson to conclude that the American Revolution would not have happened without Samuel Adams? Almost immediately after his death, his revolutionary making role was eclipsed by other founders. But as a political leader in colonial Boston, he led the effort with his masterly use of language and savvy political maneuvering that turned each event into a crises, advancing the idea that the purpose of government was to secure liberty. Pulitzer Prize winning author Stacy Schiff joins us to discuss her book, The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams published by Little, Brown and Company, 2022. In the run up to America’s 250th birthday in 2026, we will do periodic episodes on the people and events of the founding era. We hope you enjoy them!”
