History 605, S3 Ep 19: Empires, Nations, and Families & Born of Lakes and Plains - A Conversation with Anne Hyde

Historian Anne Hyde has written two prize winning histories of how mixed race families lived, worked, and changed in the turbulent 18th and 19th century Great Plains. Making a living in the fur trade and related industries required sophisticated local knowledge and connections. Tribal kinship ways and traditions then became the means by which families succeeded, if they did, in this global trade. The lone "mountain man" didn't do this by himself.
