Celebrating the American buffalo

Jennifer Irving spent a long time contemplating what she wanted the Honoring Thathanka Oyate festival to look like. She wanted it to be a celebration.

But most importantly, she wanted it to explore the significance of the buffalo and the importance of revitalizing cultural practices related to the animal.

Irving is vice president of communications and marketing at Maȟpíya Lúta (Red Cloud Indian School). She joined In the Moment to preview the festival and dive into buffalo revitalization.
