The resident pheasant season kicks off October 8th, but some bird hunters are already scouting out spots in the countryside. Pheasants are not the only bird South Dakota hunters are after. The prairie grouse season kicks off on September 17th.
The U.S. saw a rise in overdose deaths last year with over 100,000 deaths, a 28% increase from 2020.
Black Hills State University will use a $1.5 million grant to help more low-income students graduate. The grant will fund scholarships for three cohorts of eight students studying science or math. Each student will receive ten thousand dollars yearly.
Legislative interim committees are wrapping up their summer studies. One of them examined issues surrounding regional jails and state correctional plans. Committee members reported last week to the Legislative Task Force on the Incarceration Construction Fund to determine whether the legislature can take action to implement solutions.
Iowa’s defense came up with two second-half safeties, and the Hawkeyes opened the season with a 7-3 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday.
Deuce Vaughn ran for 126 yards and a touchdown, three other Kansas State players reached the end zone on the ground. And with that the Wildcats ran their way to a 34-0 season-opening victory over the University of South Dakota on Saturday night.
