On today's update...

The regular portion of the legislative session is over, both for our lawmakers and the lobbyists on the other side of the desks. Sandra Waltman with the South Dakota Educators Association reflects on the now completed session.

Governor Kristi Noem, with 18 other Republican Governors, issued a joint statement Thursday concerning environmental, social, and governance (ESG) legislation. ESG legislation uses socially and environmentally conscious principles to invest funds.

Grants are now available for nursing and long-term care facilities from the State Department of Health. The funding is intended to support recruitment and retention efforts through salary increases and upgrading part-time positions to full-time.

The Public Utilities Commission is asking South Dakotans to keep an eye on their natural gas meters and appliance vents after a pair of home explosions. Both incidents were in the Madison area. No one was hurt in either explosion.

Volunteer firefighters from two-dozen states descended onto the Black Hills for a first-of-its-kind Regional Wildland Symposium. For two days, the crews learned in classroom-style lessons and connected to the larger firefighting community.

The National Weather Service and other officials are urging South Dakotans to make sure they're ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at them this spring. They say melting snow from recent storms raises the risk of river flooding in parts of eastern South Dakota.

And more.
