Many Black Hills residents who live downstream from the Pactola Reservoir want to restrict mining activity in an expanded area. That’s the message to federal officials who are considering exempting thousands of acres in the Black Hills from mining activity.

Young gymnasts competing for the Sioux Falls School District will likely need to find a new place to perform. The board says balancing the needs of a small student population in the budget is a challenge.

The Chamberlain airport will replace its current terminal with the help of federal grant dollars. The $855,000 grant comes from the Federal Aviation Administration.

While food insecurity continues to affect thousands in the state, the Sioux Falls Health Department has awarded Sioux Falls Thrive a major grant. In total, $255,000 will be awarded to the organization to fund a mobile food market.

Five schools around the state were awarded this year’s workforce education grants. The Workforce Education Fund was created by the state legislature in 2013 and focuses on distributing grants to career and technical education programs in high schools.
