U.S. Senator John Thune talked national security issues in the latest Downtown Rotary of Sioux Falls meeting. Thune says it's a topic where all political parties typically agree.

A law enforcement officer with ties to the Black Hills was killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin. Katie Leising worked for the Pennington County Sheriff's Office for two years before moving to St. Criox County, Wisconsin last year.

A South Dakota reporter is facing a misdemeanor charge for allegedly making a prank phone call from Governor Kristi Noem's phone number. COurt documents say Austin Goss used a website called "Prank-Dial" to make a call that appeared to come from Noem's personal phone.

More than 14,000 SOuth Dakotans are eligible to receive refunds from a recent settlement with Turbo Tax's parent company Intuit. The multi-state settlement comes after almost 4.4 million users nationwide had to pay to file tax returns on the site despite it being a free service.

South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State have elected to hire a joint sustainability coordinator. The position, shared between schools, will eye both environmental goals and savings to the institutions.

The Department of Education announced its Regional Teachers of the Year in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week May 8-12, 2023. The department selects one teacher from each region.
