Rapid City voters have elected Jason Salamun as their new mayor. The transition begins immediately and Salamun will be sworn in at the July 3, 2023, City Council meeting.

The candidate vying to become Rapid City’s first female mayor has lost. Laura Armstrong came second on Tuesday night in a tight race to lead the state’s second largest city.

A proposed constitutional amendment aims to repeal South Dakota’s single-subject rule. That rule requires all constitutional amendments to address only one question.

Voters in Mitchell widely approved a $17 million bond issue for the local school. This opens the door for improvements to athletic facilities including gyms and locker rooms.
