An assistant secretary for the Department of Defense is encouraging U.S. senators to move forward with military promotions in Congress. Those promotions are on hold due to efforts by an Alabama senator, whose efforts one South Dakota senator supports.

Challenges are faced by schools everywhere — but each district is unique. As the school year starts, South Dakota State-Tribal Relations Board got an update on the state's reservation schools.

They've dubbed it "The Good Life" and for many Black Hills Works employees, it consists of a three-day work week, a flexible schedule, and less burnout. For Black Hills Works leadership, they're hoping it results in less employee turnover and ultimately, better lives for the people they serve.

The Black Hills National Forest will host its 16th annual Experience the Outdoors Day at Horsethief Lake — west of Mount Rushmore. The event is designed to help highlight outdoors activities that are accessible to everyone.

As summer winds down, Sioux Falls' Public Works is gearing up for winter. That means the annual Paint the Plow program is back and the city is looking for young artists to showcase their work on city plows.
