South Dakota's economy is trending up from May, but not by much. That's according to a new manufacturing index.
The state has ended the most recent fiscal year with an $80 million budget surplus. State government spent $56 million less than planned in fiscal year 2024.
The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Commission approves a compromise plan to reduce the number of nonresident turkey hunting licenses. This comes as some Black Hills hunters say public space for spring hunting has become overcrowded.
Use of the state's suicide and crisis lifeline has steadily increased the past two years, but officials say more awareness is needed. The 988 line received nearly 6,500 calls the first half of 2024.
The Brookings Regional Humane Society is temporarily closing its animal intake services. Staff there say this follows more than 50 cats and four dogs being taken in from a home after the owner passed away.
