Eighty million dollars are in the state reserves due to a budget surplus following the end of the last fiscal year on July 1, 2024. The governor has already earmarked that money to offset the costs of prison construction.

Minnehaha County commissioners debate a proposal to have voters decide on a new form of county government. The proposal suggests a Home Rule Charter would be the best form of governance for the county going forward.

A coalition of conservation groups in Iowa is filing for reconsideration of the Iowa Utilities Commission's approval of Summit Carbon Solution's pipeline project. The commission approved Summit's pipeline last month.
