The South Dakota DCI is investigating multiple assaults involving inmates at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls. Attorney General Marty Jackley said the assaults took place Tuesday at different sections of the Jameson Annex.

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe has declared a state of emergency, the second tribal government to do so this year following a similar declaration in Pine Ridge. President Kathleen Wooden Knife said she declared the emergency due to escalating drug trafficking, use and associated violence, particularly involving firearms.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe is issuing a health alert after a case of measles was confirmed just across the state border in Nebraska. Tribal health officials say the case was detected in a child in Sheridan County.

The state Board of Education Standards is considering fundamental changes to student-goal practices for South Dakota schools. Though this isn't the first time the question has been raised.

The value of assets held in South Dakota trusts is worth more than $800 billion. The new peak represents a trend of about $100 billion in spikes in asset values year over year.
