On today's update...

A legislative task force focused on property taxes is organizing itself into three working groups. The group wants to lower property taxes. But some on the task force worry it is biting off more than it can chew.

In the past 30 days, two states have detected the bird flu in commercial flocks: Arizona and South Dakota. Though Arizona is dealing with much higher numbers, officials in South Dakota say they’re keeping a close eye on the situation at home.

A federal judge is authorizing the sale of assets in the case of a Canadian-owned swine company accused of financial misconduct. Compeer Financial, a loan-lending bank, said Sunterra orchestrated a check-kiting scheme that put them over $30 million in debt. Sunterra denies the allegations.

The impacts of federal funding changes are being felt in South Dakota, especially with nonprofits reliant on grants. Now, one of the state’s largest nonprofits says this means South Dakota families are going hungry.

A former state employee is facing fraud charges after authorities say she falsified her own medical marijuana card. Attorney General Marty Jackley said 24-year-old Alexandra Feiner of Pierre forged records while acquiring a medical marijuana card for herself. She was an employee of the Department of Health at the time.
