On today's update...

Some landowners are throwing their hat in the ring for a potential prison site. One of the new sites is for land in Sioux Falls, and the other in Box Elder. Though prison conversations are well on their way, legislators say they are going to take a “serious” look at the two offers.

Gov. Larry Rhoden and U.S. Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum say they’ve signed a memorandum of agreement to move forward with planning to bring fireworks to Mount Rushmore in 2026.

A bill banning so-called sanctuary cities in South Dakota is among the many laws set to take effect July 1st. The law refers to cities or other local governments enacting laws limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Just in time for the Rushmore Music Festival, the Beetho-van gets a little lift, and it’s all a part of this year’s festival expansion.

Three South Dakotans are among the appointees to the Department of Homeland Security’s Advisory Council. They include Steve Kirby, former Board of Regents President Harvey Jewett, and Sioux Falls businessman George Lund.
