Department of Corrections Secretary Kellie Wasko is facing criticism from some members of the Project Prison Reset Task Force. Rep. Tim Reisch is on the task force and a former DOC secretary. He wrote in an opinion piece on the Dakota Scout that her “policies are clearly jeopardizing the safety of inmates and staff.”

One of the biggest state finance battles in recent memory has been what to do with state property taxes. At the most recent interim meeting, cuts up to 50% were sought.

It’s fireworks season for most of the country. However, for most of the Black Hills Fire Protection District, only official events are permitted. Step outside of city limits though, and that can quickly change.
