A new report suggests Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem supplemented her income while serving as South Dakota governor. The report, published Monday by investigative journalism nonprofit ProPublica, said Noem secretly received $80,000 dollars from a "dark money" group in 2023.

The city of Box Elder is withdrawing its proposal to be the site of a new men's prison. This came just days after initially throwing the site into consideration. In a statement, the city cited feedback from the community.

Nearly 200 new laws are set to take effect in South Dakota today. The Legislature passed a total of 211 laws. Several had emergency clauses, meaning they took effect right away. Gov. Larry Rhoden vetoed two others.

With new laws taking effect Tuesday, one aims to create fewer crashes on highways. Namely, by keeping cars far from road workers, officers, and accidents.

Analysts are expecting an increase in the number of South Dakotans traveling for the 4th of July holiday. AAA projects 215,000 South Dakotans will travel fifty miles or more this weekend.

The annual Rushmore Music Festival is underway in the Black Hills, where dozens of students and faculty artists from around the world focus on music education, performance, and community.
