The Legislative Rules Review Committee has approved a cut to a significant portion of funding for needy families. Ultimately, that means a cut of $5.3 million. The proposed cuts to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program faced questions but ultimately made it through the committee on Tuesday.

The USDA Secretary said the United States is planning for a “100% American workforce." South Dakota ag leaders are expressing doubt over whether this can be achieved in the farm industry. SDPB asked Gov. Larry Rhoden about potential impacts of an immigration crackdown on farm workers.

South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden said the state closed the 2025 fiscal year with a budget surplus of $63 million. The surplus included $41 million in higher-than-expected revenue and $22 million in spending below what was budgeted, officials said Monday.

Air Force officials have named the next leader of the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Col. Erick Lord is set to take the reins at a change of command ceremony later this month. Lord has extensive Air Force experience, including a previous assignment at Ellsworth.

Senator Mike Rounds says a major military appropriations bill is advancing from a congressional committee. The Bill includes significant funding for South Dakota projects.
