A major summer storm hit central and east South Dakota hard Monday night, and it looks like more rain could be on the way Tuesday. Last night, straight-line wind gusts exceeded 80 miles an hour at their peak. Damage reports are still being compiled across the state.
Sioux Falls residents are amongst the many who are cleaning up after a powerful storm Monday night left widespread damage across the region. City officials say they received nearly 200 damage reports around town through Tuesday morning, with western parts of town seeing the worst of it.
Officials from the City of Watertown are asking residents to keep an eye on their sump pumps as the region faces high rainfall. More specifically, city officials are asking residents to make sure their sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary sewer.
South Dakota education officials say federal funds that had been frozen are being released. The Trump Administration froze over $6 billion in education grants earlier this summer, saying the funds were "under review."
At the latest legislative interim appropriations meeting, a new law came at the forefront. That’s because the state saw a “windfall” of one-time funds from unclaimed property.
