Department of Corrections Secretary Kellie Wasko submitted her resignation to Governor Larry Rhoden on Monday. Wasko's resignation could give some lawmakers the confidence they need to approve a $650 million prison during a special session later this month.

A U.S. District Court Judge is ruling that a new state law is unconstitutional. The law passed earlier this year and moved the filing deadline for citizen-led ballot initiatives to nine months ahead of the general election.

Former state legislator Don Haggar is announcing his intent to run for South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission. He is the first candidate to officially announce a run. Haggar previously served in the state House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017.

Several blood types are “critically low” according to blood donation specialists, leading to a meaningful shortage for South Dakota in times of need.

The Mid-America Manufacturing Index shows little to no economic growth. The monthly report is published by Creighton University economist Dr. Ernie Goss.
