A new prison has been formally planned by the state Legislature. Now, lawmakers’ justifications for their votes have been laid out for all voters.

Attorney General Marty Jackley said five smoke shop owners across the state are indicted for possessing and distributing illegal substances.

The bill approving the construction of a new South Dakota men’s penitentiary is now officially law. Gov. Larry Rhoden signed the bill Tuesday night after the Legislature narrowly approved it in a special session.

Judge Karen Schreier is reinstating a University of South Dakota professor placed on leave over a social media post critical of Charlie Kirk. This comes after the professor asked for a temporary restraining order, or TRO, on Wednesday.
