Taxes are a dirty word in Republican-controlled South Dakota, but a group of lawmakers are finding they could be key to solving a potentially deadly problem.  The Emergency Medical Services Interim Committee met to compile its final report this week.

Gevo, a company looking to turn ethanol-based alcohol into jet fuel, said its plans for a billion-dollar site in Lake Preston, South Dakota, are on pause as it moves those operations to North Dakota. While Gevo’s CEO hinted at the possibility earlier this year, he said they plan to use the Lake Preston site in some capacity.

The Federal Reserve recently surveyed South Dakotans to get their perspectives on monetary policy to bring to the Federal Open Market Committee in Washington DC.
