Rapid City Mayor Calls Low Number Of COVID-19 Cases In PennCo A 'Gift'

There are no active cases of COVID-19 in Pennington County at this time.

State data show there have been six cases total. Five patients recovered and one died.

Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender says the local hospital confirms that information.

“I think it’s a real gift to get this time of a low period,” Allender says. “I don’t expect it to last forever, but we’re doing something right. I want us to keep doing it.”

Allender says he’s surprised at the outcome since the county is home to Rapid City, the state’s second largest city.

Allender says when Rapid City sees an increase in cases, he hopes the community will be ready to respond.
