US Senator Mike Rounds says he anticipates another check going out to Americans as part of a fourth round of coronavirus relief packages.
He says the House package—called the HEROES Act—doesn’t have majority support in the Senate. He says the senate will work with the White House on their CARES Four package.
Rounds says individuals will receive smaller checks than last time.
“That really could use it and put more money back into the economy,” Rounds says. “It was $1,200 before. I would suspect that it may not be that much, but it will be something. I think there will be incentives to go back to work, rather than to stay off work. I don’t believe we will have unemployment benefits at an additional $600 per week. I don’t see that happening. Because right now, I think it’s going to be a matter of how do we get people safely back to work to begin operating this economy on a nationwide basis.”
Rounds says he anticipates protections for businesses, schools and universities from class action lawsuits related to COVID-19.
Rounds says he wants to see flexibility in money already delivered to states—including revenue replacement.
Governor Kristi Noem has been asking for that flexibility for months. However, the state closed out it’s most recent fiscal year with $19 million in surplus.
