Joe Lowe, former director of Wildland Fire Suppression, is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in South Dakota. In a press release following his campaign announcement, Lowe said he's "running because I think our state and country have forgotten who we work for. We work for you, the people of South Dakota." Lowe said he supports transparency in government and the expansion of Medicaid. He also wants to work with tribes and their leaders to improve the quality of life on reservations. Lowe runs a Rapid City art gallery and leads an emergency management consulting firm. He faces fellow Democrat Susan Wismer in a primary election.
