Hickey's Open Meeting Bill Dies

One lawmaker who says he wants to make the process of government more transparent in Pierre had his legislation shot down in committee.

Republican Representative Steve Hickey is the sole sponsor of House Bill 1020. The bill prohibits lawmakers from coming together and deciding on legislation outside of the official process in closed door sessions.  The bill also restricted lawmakers from sending group texts or e-mails on legislation prior to a meeting.

But opponents say the bill is unnecessary and would restrict the process.
