A high ranking leader at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City has been removed from his position after an investigation found he engaged in "inappropriate conduct."

Base Commander Col. Joseph Sheffield made the decision to remove Chief Master Sgt. Justin Deisch, the command chief at the base.

“Inappropriate conduct undermines standards of good order and discipline,” Sheffield said in a news release. "All airmen should be treated with dignity and respect, and senior leaders should set the example for subordinates by exercising sound judgement and decision-making both on and off duty.”

Sheffield said a "thorough investigation" found Desich must be removed from his position to uphold the values of the Air Force.

SDPB is awaiting a response from the base about the nature of Deisch's behavior and whether he has a new role or has been removed from the Air Force.

As command chief, Deisch served as the primary adviser to Sheffield on base morale, welfare, warfighting effectiveness, operational utilization and professional development.

Ellsworth has 3,200 enlisted members and hosts the largest B-1 combat wing in the Air Force.
