Attorney General-Elect Marty Jackley has tabbed the next leader of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
Dan Satterlee will serve as the agency's next director, according to a press release issued Monday.
Satterlee is currently the coordinator for the South Dakota Fusion Center, an agency that compiles and analyzes intelligence to prevent terrorism and fight criminal activity. He previously served the DCI as administrative assistant director and field operations assistant director.
Jackley said Satterlee's experience has prepared him to lead the DCI.
"The DCI has a rich history of earning the public's trust by working directly with local law enforcement across our state to solve crime and to keep our communities safe, and we are committed to building upon this earned reputation," Jackley said.
Satterlee will assume his new role during Jackley's transition into office. Jackley, who served as attorney general through most of the 2010s, was elected back to office Nov. 8.
Leadership of the DCI went through upheaval following the impeachment and removal of former Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg for his role in a fatal crash. Ravsnborg's successor, Mark Vargo, removed former DCI Director David Natvig last summer shortly after taking office. Vargo named Chad Mosteller interim director. Mosteller will return to his position as assistant director after Satterlee assumes the job.
